The root of the word “engineer” is a word “engine”.

Aircraft gas turbine engine is considered to be the most technologically complex mechanism that has created by mankind, so graduates of our department - engineers of the top level! These are people who are able to design, diagnose and maintain any technical systems of any complexity.

The training within the specialty "Aviation engines and power plants" students master a number of fundamental, general engineering and special disciplines. After вуеing basic knowledge of Chemistry, Physics, Higher Mathematics, Engineering Graphics, Computer Aided Design on the first courses, students begin to master the theory and implementation of student projects on such engineering disciplines like an Aeronautical Materials, Mechanics of Materials and Structures, Theory of machines and mechanisms, Turbomachinery theory and calculations, Theory of air-breathing engines. Then a course of specialized disciplines begins.


The purpose of training is to develop the skills and abilities of computer modeling, design and analysis of designs of aircraft gas turbine and piston engines, made on their basis power plants, as well as units and control systems. As part of this specialization course projects are carried out on the design of the piston engine and one of the gas turbine engine components. Students receive a traditional for KhAI fundamental training in the field of aircraft engines and power plants with an emphasis on the development and application of modern design methods and information technologies.


Aircraft units - very complex and important systems operating under large temperature changes, vibrations and overloads. These increase requirements to their reliability. Therefore, their study is on focus at our department. The purpose of training is to develop skills of calculation and computer design of fuel, oil, air and de-icing systems, automatic control systems, actuators of automation and control systems of aircraft engines.


One of the most popular in the world training courses for students is a development and application of diagnostic systems of aircraft, tank and automobile engines, as well as the gas turbine drives. The engine diagnostics laboratory is working at the department, so the students of our department are thought the latest advances in this field:

  • - Modern computer aided diagnostics of technical objects;
  • - Theory of workflow;
  • - Mathematical models of engines and power plants taking into account possible operational defects;
  • - Maintenance of engines and power plants by their technical condition and level of reliability;
  • - Methods, algorithms and software of technical condition analysis of engines and units;
  • - Airborne and ground-based computer systems of diagnostics of engines and units;

Aircraft and automobile engines - are objects of engineering, which reflect the highest achievements in the development of new technologies and materials, computer-aided design, workflow, design, durability, reliability, control and diagnostics. Therefore diploma of aircraft engine engineer is an excellent recommendation for use in any technical field.

At our department and faculty are a unique class of gas turbine and piston aircraft engines, created over the past 70 years, a large number of laboratories.

Aircraft engine design department is well known in the Ukraine and in the CIS, is tightly cooperated with industry research center for theoretical strength, lifetime and reliability of aircraft engines and power plants.

The engine diagnostics laboratory is working at the department with leading aircraft engine and gas-transport companies of Ukraine, South Korea, China and the United States.
